Commendable performance from Sharks II in Medway Cup tie

Dartford played host to Div 1 opponents Tonbridge Knights in the first round of the cup.

Early signs did not look promising as Dartford were struggling for numbers while Tonbridge had a full turn out and appeared like a well-oiled machine in the warm up.

However, once the game started there was nothing in it with a more than respectable first quarter ending 14-14.

The intensity was kept up and by the half we lead by 4 prompting their coach to conduct the half time talk in the changing room!

Into the 3rd, and an inspired shooting display from old man Plail helped us to extend the lead to 12pts. Although amongst all that Sean also weighed in with an early contender for foul of the season by giving gravity a hand to place one of their team on the deck while on course to the bucket!

In the last quarter we looked to hold onto the ball in an attempt to protect the lead. However, with us seeming to forget where their basket was and after a few misplaced passes Tonbridge were right back in it. A tight end to the game saw Tonbridge restore the natural order of things with them progressing into the 2nd round of the Cup and Dartford going into the Plate competition.

A great all round team effort with positive signs for the season ahead.

Final Score : 65 - 71

Sharks Scorers : Plail 22, Yogev 15, Grimes 12, Dickson 9, Smee 7
