Sharks II leave it late to seal win at Greenwich

Due to improvement work at Beckets tonight’s game was moved to the Leigh Technology Academy, home to the league’s newest team in Greenwich Rams. Following our first encounter which, after a slow start, saw us build and retain a healthy lead, some thoughts were again for a bit of an easy ride.

From the start it was clear that Greenwich had improved defensively and were making us work hard to get the ball inside. We started a little slow again and 12 first quarter points from their top scorer saw them take the lead 12-14 going into the second.

Having started off in a zone we changed to a half court man as this had proved successful in our previous meeting. However after a sloppy phase of play in which we turned the ball over and conceded far too many fouls and technicals, we soon changed it back.

A better shot selection and several trips to the foul line should have seen us build up a lead, but as we were unable to convert many of these chances the game stayed level.

With the game tied 46-46 and little over 2 minutes to go, a time out gave us the opportunity to compose ourselves and focus on getting the job done. Saving the best for last, we did just that and scored 10 unanswered points to finish the game on a more promising note.

Next up Maidstone Away…..

Final Score : 56-46

Sharks Scorers : Yogev 16, Grimes 10, Plail 7, Rowlett 6, Andrzejewski 5, Dickson 4, Olanolan 4, Stopford 2, Whitaker 2
