Sharks II in narrow loss away to Sevenoaks

In the first (and on paper the toughest!) of two league games for us this week, we were away to Sevenoaks. From the last published league table Sevenoaks were sitting comfortably at the top with 8 wins from 8, leaving the rest of us closely battling for the second spot.

We started the game with the slight advantage of having 4 on the bench to their 2. This allowed us to keep the intensity up safe in the knowledge that fresh legs were ready to replace anyone who was tiring. It was a strategy that worked well and although the first half remained close, we had the lead for the most part, and took a 7 point advantage into the 3rd quarter.

Sevenoaks stepped up a gear defensively and started to pressurise the inbound pass. What was already a close game became even closer and the referee now had to start earning his money – let’s just say I’m glad we weren’t the ones paying him tonight!

Trailing by 3 points in the final minute of the game and with both of us in team foul trouble, a time-out was called to set the play. What then followed is a bit of a mystery to be honest, resulting in them visiting the line and getting 2 scores ahead with time escaping us. Needless to say they just took it at the end.

All in all a close well fought game that could have gone either way with a couple of refereeing decisions here or there. Now a quick turn around with the kit and get ready to go again on Thursday at home to Folkestone Veterans…

Final Score: 62-56

Sharks Scorers: Yogev 14, Plail 11, Andrzejewski 9, Fraine 8, Olanolan 6, Dickson 4, Smee 4.
