Dartford Sharks II start in medway cup

Sharks II took to the road for the second time this season for an away fixture against Eltham Eagles in Welling. Of late the matches between the two teams have been battles and this was far from any different.

On this occasion the refereeing was not too much against us as we have experienced in previous games, surprisingly Sharks got more than a few calls in our favour. All in all a solid refereeing session as only a total of 20 plus foul shots were taken on the night.

The game started just about evenly with the opposing team only a mere 4 and 5 point aheads in the first few minutes of the quarter to give Eltham the 14 - 7 lead against Sharks at the end of the quarter.

Sharks made an impressive second quarter defensive effort, with multiple offensive and defensive rebounding along with several successful steals which saw them score more than double the points they scored in the first quarter to leave them 1 point behind Eltham going into half time - Sharks 22 and Eltham Eagles 23

When the third quarter got on the way, Sharks game plan seemed to falter as Eltham took a 14 point lead after they had started a 10 point scoring run that saw them score 21 points for the third quarter which seemed very difficult for Sharks to come back from as the two teams went into the fourth quarter.

For the fourth quarter, Sharks seem to see that narrowing of the gap slip slowly away as Eltham could only be minimally maintained. All in all every member of the team contributed on the night, but unfortunately came up short as the game ended 57 - 42 in Eltham’s favour.

Final Score: 57 - 42

Sharks scorers: Sabunas 12, Marsh 7, Andrzejewski 7, Plail 5, Yogev 4, Stopford 3, Grimes 2, Rowlett 2
