Two wins on the bounce for Sharks II

Thursday 27th November – Sharks II Vs Folkestone Saints

Folkestone did not travel well tonight with only 6 able to make the long trip to Beckets. Dartford on the other hand had a relatively good turn out with 5 on the bench (by the time Todge turned up half way through anyway!).

A couple of early 3s from Sean helped us on the way in the right direction to take a 12-6 lead into the 2nd period.

Despite lacking in numbers, however Folkestone made up for that in experience and especially in their defensive organisation. The 2nd quarter and indeed the rest of the game showed a much more closely contested battle.

At the half Sharks were up 26-19 and were keen to take advantage of our extra legs to extend the lead and see the game off early. The Saints were not going to give up that easily though and always remained in sight while limiting our efforts offensively.

Towards the end of the game we decided to go big with Shilo, Mindi and Todge sharing the paint and looking to work it round inside with a fair bit of success. Eventually we were able to see out the game after winning every quarter for the first time since I can remember. Thanks to the Folkestone players who made it down for making it a close and well contested game.

Final Score: 53-40

Sharks Scorers: Yogev 18, Sabunas 10, Plail 9, Marsh 8, Grimes 4, Torreggiani 4.

Monday 8th December – Maidstone Warriors U18s Vs Sharks II

An early tip on a Monday evening away at Maidstone saw us a little depleted in numbers but more than up for a run out against a new addition to the Medway league this season. The most difficult challenge for many of us tonight though was not the game but getting through the Maidstone rush hour and finding the court in the first place.

By the time our bench and camera man (thanks as always Tim!) had all arrived and kitted up we were half way through the 2nd quarter and up 15-24. With the late arrivals quickly getting into the action we were able to add to the lead going 23-36 up at the half.

Maidstone had some good looks inside and were able to convert several of their chances when given half a yard by our defensive set up. With the advantage of a comfortable lead thanks in the main to our inside efforts, we were able to change our defense and up the pressure by going man.
With the lead at 32-57 going into the 4th, Shilo challenged us to kick on and hit the 80 point mark. Mindi in particular was leading by example by hitting 10 of his 25 points in the last period, as well as a shameful effort to up his stats by rebounding his own shot 3 times in a row before finally finishing the job! Time was running down but a last flurry of baskets saw us ahead 42-77 with only a few seconds to get that much needed 3.

No last minute buzzer beater this time though, but an enjoyable game and another all-important W to see us go 4 and 3 at the mid-point of the season.

Final score: 42-77

Sharks Scorers: Sabunas 25, Yogev 23, Stopford 11, Plail 6, Smee 6, Fitchett 2, Moradpour 2, Whitaker 2.
