Sharks II get back on track with home win

Tuesday 6th January – Iroquois Braves Vs Dartford Sharks II

Our first game in 2015 saw an away trip to Iroquois who unusually have just one team in the Medway league this season instead of the normal two. A little depleted in numbers with only 2 players on the bench, and picking up the fouls from early on the odds were already beginning to stack against us.

Not being at the game and with only the scoresheet for reference it would appear that the damage was done in the 2nd quarter with Iroquois opening up an 11 point lead in an otherwise close contest. With 3 of our players ending the game on 4 fouls and Iroquois able to capitalise on this by hitting 13 of their points from the line it was clear that some defensive improvement would be needed in the remaining fixtures.

Quarter scores: 1st 18-20, 2nd 22-9, 3rd 15-15, 4th 9-15.

Final Score: 64-59

Sharks Scorers: Marsh 17, Sabunas 16, Yogev 12, Plail 10, Whitaker 4.

Thursday 15th January – Dartford Sharks II Vs New House

Games against New House have been close of late, but with many of the results going in their favour it was time to try and redress the balance.

With a more familiar squad size giving us options on the bench and a healthy crowd along to support the game got underway. A well-ordered defense combined with a good team performance in the front court saw all 5 of our starting line up on the board in the 1st period and contributing to a 16-12 lead early on.

New House began the game in a 1-3-1 zone which appeared to be working ok, however after falling behind they switched to a man which seemed to play more into our hands as we took the 2nd 18-10 to go ahead 34-22 at the break.

Early in the 3rd we were able to extend the lead to 43-24 as we attempted to put the game out of sight. New House had other ideas though, and proceeded to go on an unanswered 14 point run of their own before we ended that with the last bucket in the quarter and a 45-38 lead going into the 4th.

In a stop start final period which featured a combined 22 shots from the foul line for both teams we were able to keep the lead and see out a deserved win in one of our best performances of the season to date.

Many thanks for the supporters on the night for helping to make it a game to remember.

Final Score: 59-48

Sharks Scorers: Smee 13, Sabunas 12, Plail 8, Yogev 7, Marsh 6, Rowlett 6, Stopford 6, Velvick 1.

Next up: Crows at home
