Dartford Sharks II v Bromley Vets

We trained and prepared all throughout the summer, lost a few players but recruited well and got ready for the new season. The season started or at least for some teams it did, but we waited patiently. Our 1st team had some games as did all the other teams in the league, but still we waited. Time stood still for a while then the clocks went back, half term came and went as did Halloween and fireworks night. Then, just a few days later we got underway.

It had been worth the wait. We started off at home against a Bromley Veterans team who had also added to their squad during the off season. Some of our regulars had obviously got fed up with waiting and chosen this week to go on their holidays but we still had a strong turn out including all our new players.

1st quarter began and we opted for a mix of youth and experience to get us going and were able to open up a small lead going into the next with some nice ball movement getting everyone involved. By the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter our new players (George, Maris, Ben & Buzz) had all entered the game and added to our points tally already. Bromley were putting up a good contest and a few trips to the foul line were helping to keep it close. However some nice efforts from beyond the arc kept us ahead 41-34 at the break.

Into the 3rd and as our defense had been getting the job done so far more of the same was ordered as we looked to extend the lead. An early trade in buckets had the score at 44-36 but then we came alive. A combination of steals and lightning passes had started to bamboozle the Vets as we went on an unanswered 21-0 run and finished the quarter up 73-38.

The game was now out of sight for Bromley though they were able to match us 18-17 in the last. Things still to work on for sure but an encouraging start to begin a steady run of games taking us up to the Christmas break. Next up back to back games against Crows...

Final score: 91 - 55

Sharks scorers: Zaksas Z 23, Striupaitis 19, Brimble 12, Stopford 11, Zaksas M 11, Mphahlele 8, Plail 3, Grimes 2, Laudams 2
