First Game Back: Dartford Sharks I Vs Bromley A

Dartford’s Medway Basketball League campaign tipped off on Thursday night, as they welcomed Bromley A to the Shark Tank. Expectations are high for the team after finishing joint second last year and returning a largely unchanged squad. Despite this, the first game of any new season brings with it an air of uncertainty and at times the Sharks looked tentative on the court.

Good, quick ball rotation enabled the Sharks to stretch their opponent’s defense and create open looks. Canadian Ben Maher took full advantage, dropping 10 points in the opening period and helping Dartford jump out to a 20 – 12 lead at the end of the first quarter. However a poor second quarter resulted in Bromley outscoring the Sharks 17-14 and clawing back to within 5 points.

The third quarter saw the Sharks stretch the lead to 8, despite their offensive execution frustrating Head Coach Ian Webb on the bench. A stronger fourth quarter ensured the Dartford victory as they outscored the visitors 19-11 and took a 69-53 victory. With their opening night nerves out of the way and first victory under their belt, the Sharks are already looking ahead to their clash against Folkestone on 07 October.

Final Score : 69 - 53

Sharks Scorers : Maher 28, Ball 12, Adams 10, Long 8, Fraser 3, Smith 2, Donchuk 2, Demmon 2, Miller 2
